30 Days Of Weight Loss Challenge: Day 26

Day 26: What excites you most about reaching your UGW?

Lots of answers to this. Bullet points!

  • Reaching my goal. Being able to say “I did it, I reached the point I said I would”. Everyone likes an accomplishment, and I’d say a grand total loss of 190lbs fits the bill. It is crazy that I will have lost more than HALF of my former self.
  • Being DONE losing weight. Holy smokes, I am SO ready to move into maintenance. I know what I need to do, I feel mentally prepared to do it and have about another 40/45lbs before that point. I am so ready to be done with the loss part of it.
  • Being a success story. Being “after”. Showing other morbidly obese (or just kinda chubby) people that you absolutely CAN do it, without surgery, without special diets or anything.
  • A world of adorable clothing. It’s shallow as all get out, but I don’t care. I love clothing and with each smaller size, more and more becomes available to me. It’s AWESOME.
  • My reward. It changes, I either want a big side tattoo or vacation. Or maybe another cat. It’ll be something awesome, that’s for sure.

I can’t wait until I can celebrate hitting my target weight, but until then, here’s to us losers - cheers!

30 Days Of Weight Loss Challenge: Day 14

Day 14: What’s your Ultimate Goal Weight (UGW)? When do you expect to reach it?

My UGW, as I stated on day one, would be around 160lbs (72.5kg). Last I checked, I was 210, but at this point I hope I’m 3-4 less than that. I have never actually seen myself at a healthy weight, so I am going to play it by ear once I get to around 170-175. I may think I look great there, or it may be another 15-20lbs.

While I do expect to reach it, I have no set time on when. I just know I will. In all honesty, I would love to be there by June or July, but I don’t want to rush things to just to make an ends to a means. I want to do this safely, smartly and successfully, which means eating and working out in a way I can for life.

I do realize once I go into maintenance, I will have to increase my calories just a bit, and I am preparing for that: I pick a few days a month I call “maintenance days”, you may also refer to these as “cheat days”. Where, instead of eating my normal 1500-1800 calories, I eat about 2,200. It lets me know how I will need to eat to maintain my UGW and doesn’t feel like I am cheating, but rather, teaching myself. I know how to lose weight, I also need to know how to keep it off.

I notice time and time again, when people set dates on when they want to lose weight by, they end up discouraged. “I want to lose 15lbs in 2 months”. Then, they end up sad when they have “only” lost 9. When, really, how silly is that? You still lost! Another month and you’ll be there. Set goals, not deadlines.
